Wireless at 10000 feet
One of the main issues that business people have with travelling by plane over long distances is the fact that they are disconnected from their business for long periods of time. No Blackberry, no Internet, nothing. Hopefully this situation won’t be common for much longer – there are a couple of bits of good news for all those who fly a lot (or even at all!).
Recently the 10th Airline IT Trends Survey was carried out by aviation technology firm SITA, which surveyed 121 airlines, and almost all said that they were looking at introducing wireless Internet access and data services such as GPRS and even SMS within the next few years. So soon you will be able to remain in contact constantly!
As well as this, America Airlines has already started to carry out trials of onboard wireless on its cross American routes, with Virgin America planning to offer the same service later on this year. While this is only in America at the moment, hopefully it will prove to be a success and will start to spread out to other routes around the world.
